This Week's Quilts & a Garage Sale.

I have to say, my favorite quilt this past week was Sandy's "Who Brought Dip". This veggie medley popped with her black inner border. Doesn't it make you want to go to the Farmer's Market?
She said to "do my own thing". I have never done freehand veggies before, so I got out a book & practiced drawing some veggies. I couldn't resist putting in a few bugs. There's always bugs in my garden. I also added lots of leaves. This caterpillar took a bit out of the leaf! I tried everything from carrots, onions, tomatoes, peas, radishes & more. It was really fun. This is a new pine cone panto I used on Diane's Alaska quilt for her husband. I have a quilt of my own I want to use this on. For a fun new quilting design go to Green Fairy Quilts blog. Judi posted the best little video of a Flower Swirl design she does. Aren't quilters the best?
If you aren't busy tomorrow(Saturday) stop by Aunt Mary's Quilt Shop for her annual Garage Sale. Our Hero Quilt group is having a table full of goodies. All of our money will be used to buy fabric & batting for American Hero Quilts.
I'll be back soon. It's almost time to start the countdown to Nanaland for Little Mister's big birthday...................Sharon

An Afternoon at Judy's

Last Saturday was Judy's outdoor quilt show & picnic. I know I've blogged about her before. She's a long arm quilter extraordinaire oozing with artistic talent. She was an Art Teacher in her former(before quilting) life. She tells the rest of us that we can do it too!

This is what greeted us at her house. A newly painted quilt block on the barn door! We always have to check out the ongoing Coy pond project. Quilts were hung on fences & porch railings.

Even the deck of her studio. Which in a enviable 1500 sq feet(bigger than my house)! The headless bodies are Jenny & Pam checking out one of Pam's quilts. I loved the quilting on this quilt of Pam's. The straight line quilting is great with the circles. Some flowers on Joanne's quilt a la Statler. Judy's husband Ken bbq'd hot dogs for us. Mmmmmm hadn't had one of those in a long time.
It was a nice afternoon with friends on one of the hottest days this summer.
Hope you enjoyed the show. I need to get back to work on the wedding dress, headache & all. No sick days for me.
See you again soon.................Sharon

Happy Birthday

How can it be? Today you are 31. Time goes by so fast. From a tiny bundle of joy to a beautiful young woman with a family of her own. May you have as much joy & happiness in your life as you've brought to mine.

Your 2nd birthday. Great Grandma Vivian & cousin Katrina eating your Strawberry Shortcake(or "cobby cake cake" as you called her) cake.I think this was your 4th birthday. One of many bear cakes. Here's the bear again on your 6th birthday.Love,
Mom

Rainbow Log Cabin

This quilt is a real beauty. Marcia is a new customer. Her sister Betz, is one of the Stanwood-
Camano Hero Quilt regulars & also a good customer. You might remember this quilt from the cover of The Quilter magazine. I recently bought a new book for inspiration, Sue Patten's latest book, Adaptable Quilting Designs. I have been admiring all of the wonderful designs in it & decided to give one a whirl.
Are you able to beat the heat? It is a little cooler here today, whew! Better get to work here.
I'm making a wedding dress & we have another fitting on Thursday.
See you soon....................Sharon

Time To Say Hello Again

A lot has happened in the last 2 weeks. I came home last Friday to find this on my door step. This was inside. Remember here when I won? The fat quarter bundle arrived & is now in my sewing room with my favorite sunset picture waiting to become a quilt. This is Jean's Snowbound block. She used yo-yo's for the wagon wheels. Why didn't I think of that? This is Linda's cute little Snoopy quilt for her daughter's friend's nephew. He's visiting for a week & needed his own quilt! Sorry about the blur. Paula over at The Granary made this using the Twister ruler. Go here & check it out. The center uses the 10" square & the border uses the 5" square. I can't wait to get the ruler's & try this. Last week we had the CIQ summer picnic at Jo's house. Lots of visiting. Then eating. And more eating. And then Show & Tell. Mandy, from Over The Rainbow, made this beautiful quilt for a friend's wedding present & Susan Palmer did the quilting. That's Jo, our hostess on the left.
I hope everyone has plans to enjoy the nice weather this weekend. I have a long arm group get together tomorrow at Judy's . We'll see the progress on her coy pond. Also I'm sure her "goat girls" will want some attention. As an added bonus everyone is bringing a quilt to hang on her fence or porch railing. I'll be sure & take pictures.

See you again soon!...........Sharon

Cama Beach Quilt Show

I waited until Saturday afternoon to go see the quilts at Cama Beach. The sun was out & it was much warmer than it had been in the morning. There were quilts everywhere. On the boat house & cabins. It was quite a sight. Hats off to the Cama Quilters for a great show! This was quite the sight! I love the black, yellow & white French Braid. This was done by several of the Cama Quilters who are also members of CIQ. A very well done applique piece of Cama Beach from the water!Theses are the little cabins. Very quaint. You have to "trek" to the bathrooms from these cabins! Lots of kite flying too!

These quilts were displayed on the building where you can rent a boat or kayak. This quilt was a big floral that was cut into squares & sashed in black. A real beauty! These next 2 quilts were part of a display of "Grandmother's Flower Garden" quilts, old & new. This one was made by the Camano Senior Center to be raffled as a fundraiser. I think they still have tickets for sale. My favorite quilt of the day was this one circa 1941. I'm not sure who the owner is. It was all done by hand. Beautiful! If you want a peaceful place for a quick get away, Cama Beach is the place to go. In case you missed my link earlier to the cabins go here now!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!.............Sharon
